New York City Schools Expected to Experience Mold Issues as the New School Year Gets Under Way Report Five Boro Mold Specialist Inc.

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2013 -- So it is back to school for students all across New York City starting in the next two to three weeks and one major problem that some schools were experiencing even at the close of the previous school year was mold growth caused by the contaminated waters of Hurricane Sandy. They (meaning other public officials) need to do a more extensive study to ensure they’ve found it all.”

The reason for this statement was based off of NYC city officials giving the green light for students to re-enter a school that was still growing mold throughout the first, second, and third floors of the public middle school located on Cronston Ave. in Belle Harbor, NY. According to the supposed city official’s experts that came in to conduct a complete building inspection of this particular school, they stated that the water damage and mold issue came from a problematic and leaky radiator and not derived from the school being under five plus feet of contaminated Hurricane Sandy flood waters.

Many parents at the close of the last school year were already irate over the fact that officials allowed their children back into these hazardous, unsanitary, and unhealthy conditions stating that they were not sure if they would even allow their children to go back to that school or any other public school for that matter.

With dwindling education and public service budgets already stretched to their limits, along with emergency and federal aid being sucked dry, many parents, teachers, and school officials are at crossroads with what they can do to help improve the conditions in which their children and students will have to endure at the beginning of this fast approaching new school year.

The Canadian government caps government-backed securities in an effort to cool things down

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2013 -- The federal housing agency in Canada, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp (CMHC), has recently capped mortgage guarantees for lenders in an effort to douse a housing market that is beginning to heat up. The move limits the 2013 guarantees it offers lenders on mortgage-backed securities. Lenders are responding by raising mortgage rates, since they are reluctant to take on the increased risk. Some economists believe Canada&aposs housing market is overheated.

"CMHC is pushing back on the banks, (saying) &aposYou&aposre going to take more risks on your balance sheet if you want to write these mortgages.&apos Well, the banks aren&apost going to write the mortgages," says Barry Schwartz, portfolio manager at Baskin Financial Services. "No way are they going to take on risk when everyone is concerned about the housing market ... so this is going to cool off the housing market."

CMHC&aposs National Housing Act Mortgage Backed Securities program converts loans into securities with government backing. All five of Canada&aposs biggest mortgage lenders, Bank of Montreal, Bank of Nova Scotia, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Toronto-Dominion Bank and Royal Bank of Canada use the program to offset risk. It allows lenders to issue lower cost mortgages and investors to buy the government-backed mortgage paper behind the loans.

This is the fourth time in the last five years the government has tightened mortgage-lending rules. The moves have cooled the national market in the second half of 2012 and first half of 2013. An increased spring demand for homes has begun a debate over whether the market is heating up again and has sparked fears of a housing bubble. The mortgage guarantee program has been more popular in 2013 than in 2012, the CMHC said. The C$85 billion limit, which was set by the Finance Department, is being approached more quickly than anticipated.

Two New 'Green' Houses Nearing Completion in South Boston

Said to be both ‘green’ and comfortable for new residents

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2013 -- An award-winning ecoMod greenhouse in the South Boston area is near to completion. The project is fully installed with energy-saving appliances as part of its final push before being finished.

The Southside Outreach Group is in charge of overseeing the project, and executive director Earl Howerton stated that the project was nearly three-fourths complete. The project will have two units that benefit from energy-efficient refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, and washers/dryers.

The project is a collaborative effort between Town of South Boston, University of Virginia, SIPS of Blairs, SVHEC and Cardinal Homes of Wylliesburg, was initiated by the town and Southside Outreach Group.

The fledgling two houses for the project are similar, but are not identical in their structure and functions. The first “code house” was built according to the Virginia statewide code, while the other is built by “passive standard,” classifications.

Energy use and the overall comfort of indoor facilities in the home will be monitored by the University of Virginia&aposs research team dedicated to assessing the home&aposs performance and quality.

The cost of the passive house is $105 per sq ft, while the control home is $70 per. Each figures within the affordable housing range for most areas within the country, according to the company.

The Southside Outreach Group, which owns both houses, is considered a non-profit that is charged with assisting low-to-moderate income individuals in the pursuit of obtaining safe and affordable housing options.

The ecoMod concept is said to fit into that mission perfectly, while the families are set to meet certain income requirements at 80% of the median costs within the given area.

The houses are set as rent-to-own. The Southside Outreach Group is currently undergoing the vetting for the initial two families that will live in the house.
